The Devastating Impact of Climate Change.
Hardly any other country suffers as much from the consequences of climate change as Bangladesh. Unusable soil and regular severe flooding make life impossible for farmers. Many migrate to other parts of the country, where no one is waiting for them in the most densely populated country in the world. My photo reports for 20 Swiss newspapers and Helvetas magazine Partnerschaft.
At The Epicentre of The Global Economy.
With the support of Helvetas, cocoa farmers in Madagascar have been able to increase their yield and protect the rainforest. I visited Eliane Mary in the Sambirano Valley. And in the east, farmers are struggling with fluctuating vanilla prices. Here is my report for Schweiz am Wochenende and 20 associated Swiss regional newspapers.
A Kingdom for Democracy.
The fourth free elections were held in Bhutan at the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024. To mark the 15th anniversary of the introduction of democracy, I went researching in Bhutan for Helvetas. The organization supported the small kingdom in the Himalayas in establishing democratic structures. My report was published in Schweiz am Wochenende and other CH-Media publications. And Helvetas magazine Partnerschaft featured a major report on the 50 years during which the organization has been active in the country.
15 Years After The Civil War.
15 years after the end of the bloody civil war, Sri Lanka is still struggling with the consequences. The country is also shaken by a severe economic crisis. Young people are trying to lead the country into a new future - the Swiss organisation Helvetas is supporting them. My report for the CH-Media newspapers.
A Future for The Balkans.
Democracy building, economic aid, vocational training: these are the areas in which the Swiss organisation Helvetas is active in the Balkans. I photographed and wrote a report on this for Switzerland's largest newspaper, Schweiz am Wochenende, and for Helvetas magazine Partnerschaft.
People With HIV in Zimbabwe.
In 2004, the renowned Swiss AIDS specialist Ruedi Lüthy founded the Newlands Clinic for people living with AIDS and HIV in Zimbabwe. To mark its 20th anniversary, I visited patients and staff at the clinic in the capital Harare as a photographer.
A Cry For Help in The Largest Refugee Camp.
On behalf of Doctors Without Borders (MSF), I visited the Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh, the largest refugee camp in the world. Since 2017, almost one million people have been living in an area where there used to be large forests and a few small villages. It is a challenging situation not only for the refugees, but also for the people who have been living there for a long time.
A Different View Of Japan.
In my book Japan - Abseits von Kirschblüten und Kimono (Japan - Beyond Cherry Blossoms and Kimono) I show Japan in a way that is different from the way a tourist might explore the country. It is a very personal Japan with many intimate images and stories.
A Photojournalistic Journey Along The New Silk Road.
For my latest photojournalistic book Die neue Seidenstrasse - Chinas Weg zur Weltmacht, I travelled along the new Silk Road from Shanghai in China to Western Europe. With more than 250 photos and many in-depth stories about the different countries I visited, the book gives a deep insight into the gigantic Chinese infrastructure project, officially called The Belt and Road Initiative.
A Travel Documentary About Japan.
When I was traveling through Japan for my book Japan - Abseits von Kirschblüten und Kimono, Swiss public television SRF accompanied me to produce a documentary about my encounters in Japan. You can find the three full-length episodes here.
